2021 corvette c8
Our sneak preview of the most exciting cars coming in the next few years draws on knowledge from leaked product-development plans, spy photos, and loose-lipped insiders mixed in with information that has already been officially released. The reporting for this story was completed in February and early March, before the auto industry began feeling major effects of the coronavirus pandemic. As many automakers are now delaying or pausing development programs, the debut and on-sale dates reported here may change.
It's a return to the stripped-down-for-action, high-revving, track-worthy Vette embodied by the hp 7. Plus, it has a flat-plane crank, just like a Ferrari V It should rev to between and rpm, spit out plus horsepower, and shriek like something from Ferrari. It feeds an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle driving the rear wheels.
This is no mere speculation; a detuned version of this engine is already powering the C8. R race car. The Z06's new V-8 packs a power curve shaped like a bodybuilder's bicep. The switch to a mid-engine configuration maximizes traction, allowing Chevy to better utilize its mega-horsepower engines for battling everything on the exotic-car spectrum. A muscled-up version of the base C8's architecture will be in play, with wider rubber, stronger brakes, a recalibrated suspension tune, and upgraded powertrain cooling.
Flared fenders cover the mechanical bits, and new-for-the-Vette active aerodynamics pin it to the track. There's a chance small-block loyalists won't want a Corvette that sounds like a Ferrari. But if you've ever heard the bellicose shout of a Pistayou know that's a low risk. New Cars. Buyer's Guide. Type keyword s to search. Today's Top Stories. At first glance, the C8 Chevy Corvette prototype you see above doesn't seem to look too different from old camouflaged cars or even the current model.
But looking closely, it features some seriously wide tires, and probably wider bodywork to boot. It suggests a higher-performance model, though details from our spy photographer suggest it's not the future Z06 or ZR1, but rather a new Grand Sport. Zooming in on the front and rear tires reveals the specs on the sidewalls. The wheels are an inch taller than the standard Corvette's at 20 inches in the front and 21 inches in the rear. They, and the tires mounted to them, are wider than the regular Corvette, too.
Up front, the tires are mm, and at the the rear they're mm. That's an extra 30 mm of front tire and 40 mm of rear tire compared to the base model. Compared to the C7 Grand Sport, the front tires are 10 mm narrower, but the rear tires are 10 mm wider. Naturally, to cope with this extra width, we expect that the fenders of this Corvette have been widened noticeably, but it's hard to make out how that affects the looks because of the heavy camouflage.
With so much extra tire, it would also be reasonable to wonder if this could be a Z06 or ZR1 model. In fact, the Z06 has been reported to have tires with these specs. But the various sightings and reports of the ultra-high performance Corvettes have suggested they will have a wild-sounding overhead-cam, flat-plane crank-equipped V8.
Our photographer reported that this prototype sounded like a regular C8. This prototype also appears to have normal exhaust tips, whereas Z06 prototypes have sported unique designs. That would be consistent with the last Corvette Grand Sport, which benefitted from the extra tire size, bodywork and suspension of the Z06, but with the standard V8.
It's hard to say when we'll see this new Grand Sport revealed, but it could appear sometime next year at the earliest. We get it. Ads can be annoying.

Thank You Thanks for subscribing.GM never offered a Corvette police car from the factory, although some U. With the mid-engine Corvette C8 in production sinceyou may wonder what are the odds of GM changing its mind and finally releasing a police version.
Police departments and law enforcement agencies across the country would have a hard time explaining a purchase like that. With that in mind, the only way we can see a mid-engine Corvette police car happening is if the automaker donated one to be used as a high-profile pursuit vehicle or for transporting blood and organs.
Until that happens, you can get a pretty accurate idea of what a Corvette police car would look like courtesy of these renderings from Aksyonov Nikita. No Grand Sport? Chevrolet Corvette C8 Reportedly Getting E-Ray Hybrid Instead
October 9, at pm. So, what can we expect next? All Rights Reserved.See all 10 photos. Once upon a time, when the Chevy Corvette still located its engine in its nose, it offered an appealing in-between performance trim. The C7 Corvette Grand Sport brought wider fender flares, suspension upgrades, and other performance goodies—essentially marrying the format of the more powerful Z06 with the entry-level Corvette Stingray's LT1 V-8 engine.
Sources from within GM apparently told GM Authority that the blank space between the "base" Corvette as if you could consider the entry-level C8's spicy performance "basic" and the expected Z06 model will instead be filled by the E-Ray hybrid. The long-expected E-Ray is anticipated to use the Corvette Stingray's 6. And yes, the E-Ray's layout would also upgrade the C8 from rear- to all-wheel drive.
There's no telling at this moment how much power the Corvette E-Ray might make, but it'll likely be more than the regular hp C8. Figure on somewhere around to hp, which would fit the E-Ray neatly between the Stingray and the Corvette Z06 's expected hp-plus output. The Z06, by the way, will also get a special flat-plane-crankshaft V-8 that ditches pushrods for an overhead cam setup.
Beyond that, the Corvette lineup will likely sprout a ZR1 with a twin-turbo version of the Z06's engine, along with a 1,hp "Zora" hybrid model that combines the E-Ray's electric motors with the ZR1's turbocharged twin-cam, flat-plane-crank V So, while the Grand Sport seemingly won't make it back into the Corvette lineup, the E-Ray that takes its place soon, we suspect, though the timing is hazy will serve as the bridge between the current Stingray and the wilder models to come in the emerging C8 family.

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter.By this time, there's no way you can order for a brand new Corvette C8 from a Chevy dealership. That has been pretty much set in stone. Even those that have been ordered before might not even be made because of the production difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic.
If you want to own the first mid-engine Corvette, your best option is to place an order for a model year, but that on itself poses another challenge — that's if you don't like waiting. According to Mike, the Chevy Dude, you will need to wait for 12 to 18 months if you order for a Corvette C8 today. That's because of the minimal production weeks left this year for the MY Vette, which Mike estimates to be at around six weeks, considering the three-week plant shutdown for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New year.
And that's if production for the Corvette starts by November 2, which Mike debunked on the video above. While this date has been around the rumor mill, the Chevy Dude said that GM is yet to announce a final confirmation. What can you expect from the Corvette, anyway? The former will replace the existing Long Beach Red paint option. There will also be body stripes in a multitude of colors made available. Plus, wireless Apple CarPlay will be standard across the range.
This was also confirmed by Mike on the video above, which is great, considering the Corvette won't have a base price increase for the model year. Source: Chevy Dude. By : Jacob Oliva. Used Cars. Chevrolet Corvette. Sign In or Sign Up.After years of waiting for the mid-engine Corvette to make its debut, the pressure was on for Chevrolet to deliver a modern-day icon. As the C8-generation car enters its second model year, we are happy to report that its status is preserved—in fact, it's elevated.
The Corvette earned a 10Best award forand the model offers the same impressive performance, the same hp V-8 engine, and the same affordable base price. Both a coupe and a convertible are offered, and the Corvette's two-seat cabin is spacious and comfortable for full-size adults.
Beyond its spectacular performance, Chevy's engineers made the ride supple enough for daily commuting and cross-country road trips, yet with the Z51 package the Vette is track-capable. Cargo space is limited, but golf clubs still fit in the back, and the front trunk frunk offers a deep well that'll easily hold a carry-on suitcase.
Despite holding steady on the Corvette's pricing forChevrolet has added a few standard featuresincluding wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, new options for the digital gauge display, and a Buckle-to-Drive safety feature that prevents the standard automatic transmission from shifting out of park until the driver has buckled their seat belt.
On top of that, any Corvette can now be ordered with the optional magnetorheological dampers as a standalone option; previously, to get them you'd have to purchase expensive Z51 performance package.
Cosmetically, a new Full Length Dual Racing Stripe package is available, with stripes in blue, orange, red, or yellow. A new gray-and-yellow interior color scheme has also been added to the options sheet. The Corvette is available as either a coupe or a convertible with a folding hard top.
Since the coupe's roof lifts off for open-top motoring anyway, we'd stick with it. The Z51 performance package is also a must-have as it brings all of the Corvette's best performance-oriented gear.
Although the engine is in a new location—now behind the passenger compartment instead of in front of it—it remains a 6.
2021 Corvette Production To Begin November 16th
With the dual-mode performance exhaust that is part of the Z51 package, it makes horsepower. The Z51 option also adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential, more aggressive brakes, and summer tires. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic a Corvette first is the sole transmission. It is controlled either by a push-button gear selector on the center console or by using two large steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.
A manual transmission is not available. In our testing, we recorded a zero-tomph time of 2. We managed a braking distance of feet from 70 mph and recorded 1. Even in base form, however, the new Corvette is capable of heroic handling and delivers big thrills on both road and track. The Corvette earns EPA fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined. We subjected it to our own mile highway fuel-economy test and recorded 26 mpg, 1 mpg less than expected.
The last generation—remember the Corvette with the engine in the front?
The new Corvette's interior remains a two-seat layout, but the cabin is moved up closer to the car's nose to accommodate the mid-mounted engine. The interior is lined in materials such as leather, real metal, and imitation suede and even has a stitched headliner. Speaking of the roof, it's removable just like those of previous Corvettes, and it fits inside the car's trunk just aft of the engine compartment. The rear trunk also can accommodate two golf bags, and a front trunk offers space for luggage or cargo while the roof is stowed.
The driver sits behind a squared-off steering wheel and a The interior design takes the driver-focused concept to the max, bisecting the cockpit with a tall bank of switches for the car's climate-control system.
Overall, the new Vette's cabin is quite good. Upgrading to the 3LT package gets you upgraded materials such as sewn leather on most of its interior surfaces, plus carbon-fiber trim.
The new Corvette offers two trunk areas, one ahead of the passenger compartment and one behind the engine, for a total of 13 cubic feet of storage space. Chevrolet says the Corvette can fit two sets of golf clubs in the rear compartment when they are stacked on top of each other. In our testingwe were able to fit our set of clubs easily, so Chevy's claim seems valid.Chevy already announced that the Corvette would cost the same as the model, and now we have more information on the car's updates for its second model year.
New colors, features, and slightly different options are all on the table for the edition of the mid-engined C8which will start production later this year. There's also a new grey and yellow interior color scheme and new stripe designs and colors. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are now standard, and the digital gauge cluster offers a few new display options including a different visualization for the tachometer for track driving.
GM's Buckle to Drive featurewhich requires the driver to buckle their seatbelt before the car can be shifted out of park, is now standard. Performance-wise, the 6. But the Corvette does now offer magnetorheological dampers as a standalone option, meaning you can choose this suspension setup without the Z51 performance package.
Orders are open now, and we expect both models to go on sale near the end of the year as GM's Bowling Green, Kentucky factory prepares to switch over to the next model year a few months from now.
