Emergency brake warning chime

A lit emergency brake light on the dashboard is a good reminder for drivers to release the brake before take off. However, sometimes a wonky wire or bad connection can get in the way, which makes it hard to know if the emergency brake is on or off. Troubleshooting the problem can help to pinpoint where the fault is and correct it. Take a look at the emergency brakes and make sure they are turned off. If this does not correct the problem, then proceed to run the following checks. Another reason that might cause emergency light brakes to stay on is a fault in the battery or electrical system.

Inspect the catalytic converter to find out if it is working correctly. Check circuitry basics as well, establish if fuses and switches are working as needed. It might be necessary to adjust the switch to the pedal. One of the common reasons why the dashboard brake light remains on when the emergency brake is off is when there is need for addition of brake fluid. Open the cap, check the level, and add fresh brake fluid as needed. Many cars have a brake fluid reservoir that indicates the fluid level even without opening the cap.

Check the marking on the side that indicates whether there is need to add a fresh supply of brake fluid. If the brake fluid levels are low, start by wiping the fluid reservoir with a clean rag to remove dirt, particles, grease.

Such materials can easily contaminate brake fluid and degrade its quality. This eliminates such problems that can also clog its components. Remove the cap and add the brake fluid slowly until it reaches the recommended level.

Close the reservoir and keep on checking on the brake fluid level regularly to prevent such problems. Find out if there are signs of external leaks.

Take a look at the hoses tube fitting and tighten them as recommended by the manufacturer. Find out if the leakage is coming from the master cylinder too. If it can be fixed by tightening tube nuts, replacing tube seats or tightening the cap then make changes as necessary. If this does not solve the problem, then replace the master cylinder with a new one. When filling the reservoir with brake fluid, never shake the bottle as it introduces bubbles that can cause serious problems in the system.

If there is a problem with emergency brake lights and the brake pedal feels spongy or abnormal, do not drive the car. Tow it to a mechanic or where it can be repaired properly. Q: What does the parking brake on chime mean?

A new development is that my electric slide outs 2 seem to be acting up in that I sometimes have to move the ignition switch on and off a couple times to get them to work. I have seen several forums related to this problem but have never heard from anyone who had actually corrected it.

The only item that comes to mind at this time is a common ground point, that is ether corroded or possibility loose. Does the low air alarm come off and on when just setting or when it is moving?

Or is there any other conditions that tend to affect the alarm? The alarm sounds while driving. Any idea where that common ground would be? Carefully reach up under the dash and check to see that all connections are firmly engaged in their sockets.

If the level of brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir is too low it will cause the brake light to stay on and chime continuously. Check the level and fill with the appropriate type of brake fluid probably DOT3.

You may also want to make sure the master cylinder isn't leaking brake fluid as well this will be easy to tell if the brake light comes back on within the next few days after filling the reservoir.

Why Brake Light Comes On when Car Accelerates and How To Fix It!

I was driving our recently purchased Holiday Rambler Endeavor back from a weekend out and it was raining. About 5 miles from home I noticed a warning chime, like you get when you leave the keys in your car, was going off.

I checked all the gauges, and the dash and had no warning lights or unusual gauge readings. I pulled in the driveway and it continued until it got very faint and then I couldn't hear it anymore. I have driven on dry road a few miles since with no warning chime.

Anyone have any ideas? The engine is the Cummins ISL horsepower pusher. I have had the same chime alarm go off in my '04 Monaco Cayman during a heavy rain storm, then get fainter as the pavement got drier.

My suspicion is that it is an alarm sensor that is giving a false reading that your levelers are down or not all the way up.

Check it out - as for me the next time it happens I will attempt to disconnect the levelers alarm and see if that solves the problem. We have a similar alarm without any message as to cause. Ours occurs when we start out and after some distance it will stop. I suspect it is a brake warning but haven't been able to duplicate it or get any indicator of any problem on my engine monitor Silverleaf.

Sometimes these systems are so smart they forget to tell us what is wrong. I recently noticed a ticking noise when the engine is running - traced it to an alarm module. Don't know what that means. I plan to replace that module when we get on the road this spring. Maybe then I'll have more music to drive by Thanks for any advice. Have any of you heard about water splashing up onto oil sending unit causing alarm.

I have heard that and the fact that it normally won't show up on diagnostics, which the Cummins people want to do. Friend of mine had this on different engine and covered sending unit terminals with silicone and went away.

Anyone else had this? Oil pressure sending unit, coolant temp sending unit, etc. Water with dirt conducts just enough electricity to cause a false alarm. Dismantle, clean to bare metal and lightly coat with a di-electric grease auto parts store, Radio Shack, etc. Same for roof top "antenna up" alarm. In addition to possible short circuit conditions due to contaminated water, another source of the chime is low fluid level in the jack reservoir, if you have hydraulic jacks. This problem won't be rain sensitive, but it will start chiming with bumpy roads, then stop with smooth pavement.

I have a Monaco diplomat and have the same warning noise when driving in rain and it goes away when the pavement dries. I called Monaco technical department before the went into bankruptcy and they suggested it was the low air warning. There are sensors on the back of each air tank that are not covered.

I cleaned and coated the front one with silicone and did not realize there is another in the rear We recently had a similiar problem on our Windsor and Monaco told us it was most likely the "low air sensor" on the emergancy brake switch.

We were not able to confirm because it stopped doing it after a couple of days while we were in the wilds of Alaska. Good luck. I have a HR and have solved the intermittent chime problem in my coach. In my case and that of many othes as discussed on another forum was a low fluid level in the hyd.
