U engine code seems a kind of network problem, we try to show one by one the meaning and the solution. Brief explanation of the U code and definition of U is the bottom side.
MFG - Manufacturer Specific codes, which have a '1' as their second digit to indicate they are unique to a particular vehicle make or model. These special codes were deemed necessary by the vehicle manufacturers so they could provide additional diagnostic information beyond the basic list of generic OBD II codes for all kinds of faults, not just emissions-related faults.
If the engine solenoid valve has an open or short circuit, a DTC is stored. The catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it.2004 GM 2500 Cluster problem no communications
When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the disk0s2 not mounted oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. When you see U engine fault code on your engine code reader this description will help you.
Final Step: In the definitions listed below, there is a test drive recommended after you've completed any repairs to see if the condition is fixed.
Before you take a test drive after a repair, always erase the U Code s first. This will turn the check engine light off and then you will know if the check engine light returns, you've got further diagnostics to complete.

Joined Apr 19, The is on because the dash power is lost. Restore dash power and that code will be fixed. The P is also a power lost code the PCM does see the correct ignition on signal and has the fuel turned off. You have an ignition problem Thank you Will start in on this the beginning of next week.
Good luck!!! Squared away. I didn't have any blown fuses, but the fuses did look discolored so I cleaned then and also sprayed contact cleaner in the fuse box and the power was restored to the dash and truck is working good. Thank you for the help. Joined Sep 28, The discoloration was dark in color on the pins of the fuses.
I just brushed them clean, sprayed the electrical cleaner on the fuse box pins and then put the fuse back. The fuse did fit tight in the box pins. The truck ususally started on the second try now it starts on the first every time. Join the discussion.

It had absolutely no problem except for the engine light was on which I figured was just because of the true dual exhaust. It drove good for a week and now I am having a multitude of error codes showing up when scanned and problems being caused. It shuts my motor down to a rough idle. I have to pull over turn the key off for 10 seconds then I can turn it back on and its okay. I am also having an issue with when I have a passenger get in it turns on my brake light as well as my abs light and states that I need to service the brake system.
Now just yesterday it is giving me another code and reading saying that I need to service the four wheel drive. The truck has been in what seems to be a low speed front end collision as it new front fenders, the bumper was bent and a few other things im sure.
The previous owner didn't know about the accident. He told me he had problem with the 4wd but replaced the push button switch board inside the cab and that it fixed it. I read online where the reduced engine problem was from a bad throttle position sensor so I replaced the sensor and the wiring harness. It did nothing. I am wondering if this could just be one huge wiring issue from the accident or is it just a multitude of small problems I need to fix.
Do you. This has been bugging the crap out of me it happens to us guys that fix cars. You said this has true duals meaning exhaust. Does this have one of those things plugged into the aldl or where you hook the scanner up inside the car? If it does take it out and see if you have the same problems. A lot of these GM products get screwed up when these things are plugged into the car. Either that or there is some kind of wiring issue with the passenger seat.
That is causing this or any other place that eh wiring harness has been modified like an alarm system that was installed that isn't factory unit. This error code is a manufacturer-specific trouble code, meaning it does not apply to all vehicles makes.
Rather, it applies only to specific vehicle makes, such as Chevrolet. Specification on the definition, troubleshooting, and repairs still vary from one make and model to another.
This error code will keep the vehicle from starting, or cause problems in the normal operation depending on when the loss of communication was detected. The engine will continue to start and run if the condition that set the code happened after the PCM received a valid theft deterrent password XXXXX the BCM and already allowed fuel to the ignition cycle. If the condition that set the code occurred before the PCM received a valid theft deterrent password, then the engine will start and stall immediately.
To diagnose this error code, you need to hook up a scanner and see if the key is being recognized by the PCM. This might be in the engine section of the scanner of the BCM.
If the key is not there, the fuel will shut off, and the engine will start and die. Other cars work the same way, such as Volvo.

Test the Passlock sensor circuit voltage located at the sensor connector terminal. Then, test the Passlock sensor signal back probed at the Yellow wire voltage from the lock, through the crank, and to the run position. If the signal voltage is in a consistent sequence when you do a start and run and when start and stall, that means the BCM may be failing. Next, make sure the PCM maintains a good power and ground. It may be having an intermittent drop out caused by the bad ignition switch.
If this is the case, you must monitor voltages when the stall occurs, or when the Error Code P sets. If the signal voltage is in an inconsistent sequence, verify the 12V and ground circuits.

Subscribe to our mailing list. One of the most common trouble codes with the Chevy Silverado is the P code. Gas Cap Bad — A bad fuel cap can cause the P code to be thrown for sure. The Silverado will typically be warning you to tighten the fuel cap. This is a great place to start. Just be aware that it may take the engine several cycles clear the code.
Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor — If the fuel tank pressure sensor has gone bad, it can cause all sorts of problems, including the P code. Chevy Silverado P Symptoms The P code on a Chevy Silverado will often be thrown after the engine has a hard time starting after refueling. Vapor Canister Purge Valve — The most common culprit with the P trouble code and the Chevy Silverado is going to be the vapor canister purge valve.

This can be from a faulty BCM which is common in these cars. Here is some information from the book: DTC P Circuit Description: The body control module BCMproduces the theft deterrent crank relay and fuel enable signal when ignition is ON and the proper ignition code voltage value is detected.
The powertrain control module PCM monitors the fuel enable signal during crank. If the proper signal is present on the class 2 serial data circuit, the PCM enables the fuel delivery in order to allow the engine to start. The engine continues to start and run as long as DTC P is stored. This information will not be stored as freeze frame data.
The DTC can be cleared by using a scan tool. Try to disconnect the battery for ten minutes and then reconnect it to see what happens it could reset. If the problem then returns the BCM is bad here is its location you will need a shop to program it for you. Below Let me know Cheers Image Click to enlarge.
Was this answer. I had to replace transmission on this car. So I move the engine so I can get to transmission and got it back together and know it will not start by key to start. All it will do is no sound from starter. It will start is if I go under car it will run about four seconds and shut off. So I put my snap on scanner on it it has codeu, code is theft deterrent system fuel is disable u How do I get it running?
Is there a way to get it running by key learning? I have tried key in for ten minutes and pull key out for less then twenty seconds and do it again.
Is there something I am missing or is there a way I can bypass the system? Can you tell me the right way to program it by key to learn? I found my problem and got more information on my car. I was told if the battery drains all the time if you have to get it jump or your headlights goes on by its flashes or interior lights do not work it will be BCM body control module this some sign of BCM is gone or going out.
This car is well known for BCM problem. I hope this will help others. Great addition to this thread! Please feel free to help out whenever you are on the site : Cheers, Ken Was this answer. Please login or register to post a reply. Sponsored links. Ask a Car Question.
